【摘要】:Thistestmethodprovidesameasureofthepresenceofsurfactantsindieselfuels,andcanbeperformedinthefieldorinalaboratory.LikeTestMethodD3948usedforjetfuel,thistestmethodcandetecttracesofsomerefinerytreatingchemicalsleftinfuel.Itcanalsodetectsurfaceactivesubstancesaddedtoorpickedupbythefuelduringhandlingfrompointofproductiontopointofuse.Certainadditives,whichcanactasweaksurfactants,giveaslightlyreducedDSEPrating.OthersubstanceswhicharestrongsurfactantsgivemuchlowerDSEPratings.Whilefilterseparatorshavenotbeencommonindieselfuelsystems,theycouldbecomemoreprevalentwithULSDcontainingincreasedadditivecontenttoensureclean,dryfuelsinnewenginedesigns.Weaksurfactants,withslightlyreducedDSEPratings,donotaffecttheabilityoffilterseparatorstoseparatefreewaterfromthefuel.StrongsurfactantsgiveamuchlowerDSEPratingandadverselyaffecttheabilityoffilterseparatorstoseparatefreewaterfromthefuel.Resultsfromthistestmethoddonothaveaknownrelationshiptotherateofwatersettlingintanks.TheMicro-Separometerhasameasurementrangefrom50to100.Valuesobtainedoutsideofthoselimitsareundefinedandinvalid.Note28212;Intheeventavaluegreaterthan100isobtained,thereisagoodprobabilitythatlighttransmittancewasreducedbymaterialcontainedinthefuelusedtosetthe100referencelevel.Thematerialwassubsequentlyremovedduringthecoalescingportionofthetest,thus,theprocessedfuelhadahigherlighttransmittancethanthefuelsampleusedtoobtainthe100referencelevelresultinginthefinalratingmeasuringinexcessof100.1.1Thistestmethodcoversarapidportablemeansforfieldandlaboratoryusetoratetheabilityofdieselfuels(bothneatandthosecontainingadditives)toreleaseentrainedoremulsifiedwaterwhenpassedthroughfiberglasscoalescingmaterial.1.2ThistestmethodisapplicabletodieselfuelssuchasD975GradeNo.1andGradeNo.2ofallsulfurlevels,andMIL-F-16884,navaldistillatefuel(NATOF-76).Note18212;ThistestmethodissimilartoTestMethodD3948whichisapplicabletoaviationturbinefuels.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
